Mission News

1. Praying for Sudan:

A crevasse of division and violence marks the largest east African country of Sudan. The jagged ethnic and geographic barriers decades in the making have contributed to challenges of the present. After gaining independence from the UK in 1956, differences between north and south led to civil wars and the eventual formation of South Sudan as a sovereign nation in July 2011. Though concessions have been reached between the north and south, Sudan remains a spiritual and physical battlefield, as Christians comprise only a small minority.

Today, the majority of Sudan's inhabitants are Arab Sunni Muslims. As the ruling majority, their influence over law and government is strong. Though a recent agreement provided protection for non-Arabs, conversion to Christianity is legally punishable by death. While their brothers and sisters in South Sudan live in relative freedom, believers in Sudan face strong persecution, with those in the Nuba Mountains facing the most severe. There is a great need for regional and denominational unity and the establishment of Christian communities throughout Sudan. Pray that Sudanese believers would remain faithful to Christ despite persecution and join together as a unified body of believers.

Mission Prayer Items:

• Pray for definitive peace and stability between tribal groups and military commanders who continue to vie for power.

• Pray for government leaders to rule with integrity and justice.

• Pray for the church to grow spiritually strong despite intense suffering and persecution.

Prayer Items for the Week

  1. Pray for brothers and sisters’ heart to apply the church motto in their life – Having the same mind as Christ.

  2. Pray for a smooth resource consent application process for our church expansion project.

  3. Pray for the recruitment of an English pastor. May God prepare a suitable pastor to minister the English congregation.

  4. Diagnosis has confirmed that Michael Kwok had his lung cancer cells spread to the liver. The medical team is applying for a new drug and in the mean time he will continue to take anticoagulants, steroids and target drugs. The doctors have allowed him to go for a short trip. Please continue to pray for the application for the new drug and that he will have an enjoyable trip.

Mission News

1. Praying for Iran:

Since the Islamic Revolution in 1979, Khomeini became the supreme leader of Iran and established the Islamic Republic, where the Islamic religion and politics became unified in the country. Iran has an ancient and noble culture in the cradle of civilization. Today, however, the country suffers from high unemployment, suicide and poverty, and many Iranians wish to leave the country. According to the Islamic Shariah, children born in a Muslim family are born with the identity of Muslims and their identity cards are labelled "I am a Muslim". There are however some Iranians, mostly young people, who have a Muslim status but no Muslim faith.

Prayer items:

  • Pray for the Iranians, especially those with a Muslim status but no Muslim faith, that they will come to know Christ and receive God's salvation.

  • Pray for God's protection of the church who are being persecuted in Iran, that they will keep their faith and glorify God as the salt and light.

  4. Diagnosis has confirmed that Michael Kwok had his lung cancer cells spread to the liver. The medical team is applying for a new drug and if unsuccessful, will organize other therapies. His brain radiotherapy has been completed and his headache is now under control. Thank God for the swift therapeutic arrangement by the medical team, and for giving Michael peace to handle the treatment. Please pray for the application for the new drug and a smooth therapy to eradicate the tumor.
