    1. We will start online worship when:

    i. Government announces suspension of schools

ii. A confirmed case among our church attendants

iii. A church attendant is asked by the government to be quarantined

iv. Dr Franklin Fung and Dr Vincent Chan would advise the church about any necessary measures, including when to implement online worship and meetings.

    2. The church is preparing for online worship and recruiting helpers who have the required gifts. We are also exploring different options to hold meetings, fellowships, small groups and other gatherings online.

    3. The pastoral team are currently making plans on how to carry out pastoral care for those who cannot attend church meetings.

    4. The latest arrangements and changes in church meetings will be notified to brothers and sisters through Facebook, website and various group chats.

A Word of Encouragement from the Pastors and Deacons

  4. Pastoral News: Pastor Edith Li has resigned and will officially finish her pastoral role on 1st April. There will be a farewell party for Pastor Edith on 11th April, details to follow. HWC thanks Pastor Edith for her faithful serving over the years, please pray for her as she re-structures her ministries.

  5. 50th Baptism: It will be held on 12/4. If you are keen to please apply to Pastors or deacons. The closing date is today. All the applicants have to finish the nurturing course. Application is also open for child dedication and membership of the church.
Due to the coronavirus outbreak and public health concerns, the baptism will be conducted by a sprinkle of water in each congregation separately. The pastoral team and deacons agree that it is in accordance with the church's rule book due to the circumstances. For further enquiries feel free to discuss with the pastors.

  6. Joy Fellowship: For the health and wellbeing of the elderlies, Joy Fellowship will continue on hiatus until further notice.

  7. Last week the drainage of one of the toilets in the church was blocked by paper towels and flow of sewage reverted into the hall. Please remember that hand towels are to be disposed into the bins, not the toilets.

Bible Reading Plan

We would like to invite you to join our monthly Bible reading plan community on YouVersion. Our aim is to encourage us to read, study and meditate the Word of God together. We are starting a new plan called “Preparing Our Hearts for Easter: A Lenten Devotional” today. This aim to prepare us for the anticipation of the life of Christ conquering the darkness of sin and death through His resurrection. Through these 40 days, we are reminded of the reality of our frailty and God’s redeeming grace. If you already have a YouVersion account, you can join by clicking this link.  If you have any questions, please read this step-by-step guide or email Pastor ET @ et.wong@holywordchurch.org.nz.

Mission Information

  1. The 24 April to 23 May is the Muslim Ramadan (fasting month), we want to encourage brothers and sisters to pray for Muslims and remember their need for the Gospel. Check out https://www.30daysprayer.com/participate/ on how to join the 30-day prayer movement for the Muslims. For a better understanding of the Islam religion, the Mission Department has prepared a document which you can access via https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QsYiN5V0i8xJdGLaT5NydAMgoXKlbsdt/view

  2. S&C give thanks for the coaching course they completed during their stay in NZ, and hope to share with their co-workers from their mission organization. Please pray that they are able to still serve effectively with the time zone between NZ and the mission field, especially with the complex ministries they are facing. Please pray for God's guidance in their plan of return to the mission field early April.

  3. H&P have deferred their return to the mission field to mid-April due to the coronavirus outbreak. H will preach at the Mandarin service on 15 March, and then at the Cantonese and English services on 22 March. Please remember them in your prayer.

  4. Remember James Che and his wife's ministry in Tanzania. There aren't any confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country yet. May the Lord continue to bless them with health and strength.
